I mean the purpose of the lipstick tube was a metal shield to keep out the hum, not just look like fairy dust.īut going aftermarket, that's an extra expense and a trip down a tone change that one might not want to take. Jazzmasters have much shielding in them at least the MIA ones and don't buzz like reissue Danos. A reverse-wound reverse-pole affair that when used in conjunction with the regular wound-poled bridge pickup, cancels the hum turning the two pickups into a humbucker. The only other solution seems to be the pickup replacement route of getting the neck pickup design that uses the RW/RP neck pickup. This should have been done at the design and manufacturing stage. The bodies of these guitars are hard to shield as there are no cavity walls that are easily accessible to get a length of copper tape to stick. How the Dano company now, must think of its customers as deaf, is another mystery of how to set up a guitar company and then cripple your product by leaving out the all important shielding. The reissue designers left out the heavy shielding that Nat Daniel used as a NAMM selling point by placing his guitars in front a large neon sign he'd set up to demonstrate his buzz-proof single coil inexpensive guitars. But once in tune it's a joy to play and this being a 12 string makes it extra enjoyable with the bright sparkly Korean lipstick tube pickups. Yes the guitar needed extra set up after purchase. Great jangle tone out of the stock 1999 pickups but horrible hum and buzz. We like these guitars for their cheap amazing tone. It appears these reissue Danos are buzz-blight-years to infinity and beyond. I have to believe that if every Dano was this bad, I would have read about it somewhere. But does this sound like a normal Dano issue? I'm having a whale of a time diagnosing this online, which leads me to believe there is something funky with the electronics in this guy. I know its a Dano and the pickups are body mounted, as such more prone to picking up the noise I am having issue with. In terms of RF, it really isn't any worse than a stock American Strat, but the Strat is nowhere near as microphonic and susceptible to the 'tap and bump' noise the Dano wants to transmit. The guitar is not shielded in any way, but I am going to sort that out. It's not just if you tap the pickup itself, but if you tap anywhere on the body, particularly the concentric pots, its clear and loud and audible when amplified. It seems to pick up every RF signal in the neighborhood, but most of all, when used with even a bit of gain, every knock, tap or bump to the body is picked up through its electronics. The guitar is microphonic and noisy as all get out. Mostly, it just needed some love and a good set up, but I have a question about its electronics. Its the first Danelectro I have ever owned and this one came at a bargain basement price (even for a Dano!) with a few glaring issues. I have a Danelectro classic Baritone Korean Reissue.
